The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s Nongame Wildlife Advisory Committee is soliciting applications for the position of chair for each of the state’s six scientific councils — mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, freshwater fishes, freshwater and terrestrial mollusks, and freshwater and terrestrial crustaceans.
The scientific councils are responsible for updating the listings of legal protection status of the endangered, threatened and special concern species included in each taxonomic group. Scientific councils typically have five to 10 members and may include representatives from adjacent states. Council chairs will have broad latitude in building a team of experts who have demonstrated statewide taxonomic knowledge in North Carolina and adjacent regions. Responsibilities of chairs include:
